Intentions are powerful! They are consciously created goals that are soulfully charged with positive energy. We all know goals are important… and intentions are similar however I think they have a more meaningful quality to them. They represent an inner drive, a readiness, a desire to feel a certain way. Setting intentions are a way to let the universe know you are ready to take action on manifesting your desires.
Tuning in to what you want in your life
is taking responsibility for your life situation…
You are stepping up to the plate of creating your best life!”
A few words on Desire. Having a strong desire pulls you forward… and that in and of itself can be a strong source of motivation. Desires are a strong wish for something to happen… they can help you move along in your journey. But keep in mind the importance of enjoying the journey… joy is in the journey, not the destination. Knowing how you want to FEEL is the secret ingredient in truly understanding your desires. When you connect to that you are honoring yourself + your true inner being.
There is a huge emphasis on feeling your intentions. Feeling is something you experience in your body… not so much your mind… a place many of us may think we are feeling things but often we just get sucked into without even realizing it. Thinking too much about feeling can take away from the experience of actually feeling. That may sound strange but overthinking can create a sense of expectation, which in turn removes us from the present moment… the only place we can actually feel!
Connecting to that place within you where your intuitive voice is strong takes some practice. But the act of setting intentions is a great way to develop + allow that inner voice to come alive. The focused energy that you put forth will multiply and bring about more positive energy, and lead to greater clarity + growth… two things that I think are just FABULOUS! It is really quite magical because the manifesting process has already begun to take place, you are just speeding up the process.
Welcoming in change and new experiences isn’t always easy… there is so much unknown. But there is also a lot of beauty in that too! You are trying something new to improve your life situation. Knowing that you do not know what is going to happen is an opportunity to really grow. Learning to lean into the discomfort of uncertainty can bring in an element of ease making the process more enjoyable. Remain flexible… Keep an open heart + open mind. You may receive something even better than you imagined!
I encourage you to make time for setting intentions each and every month. One of the best times to do this is right after a New Moon! New moons represent new beginnings. It is a potent time to plant your seeds of intention… and as you nurture them, they will sprout, blossom + bloom. If you want to take it up a notch, you can look up what (astrological) sign the moon is in so you can more fully take advantage of what areas/topics are emphasized during that time. Whether you create your intentions from scratch or not, the best time to do the exercise is within the first 8 hours after the New Moon. Within 48 hours is still a good timeframe. However don’t get hung up on the perfect timing, actually doing them is better than not doing them at all.
Here are 7 tips for setting intentions.
- Intentions should be written by hand + in pen… it’s more soulful + sincere.
- Make sure to date them so you can later review them to gain new insights.
- Get comfortable! Choose a quiet space where you won’t be interrupted.
- Start with gratitude. Think about what is working well for you in your life already and how you might want to build on that. That energy is already vibrant + magnetic and will easily help you attract more goodness.
- Schedule intention setting into your calendar. Make it a monthly self-loving ritual!
- Give yourself plenty of time. This isn’t something to rush through… allow enough time and space to make it a relaxing + enjoyable experience. Being outside in nature or taking a few minutes to meditate is a great way to start the process.
- Keep your intentions to no more than 10. It’s easy to get to 10, trust me… think quality over quantity here.
Setting intentions means giving yourself a chance to go inwards and listen. You are mirroring your inner desires out into the world by creating an outlet of them onto paper. This action helps to solidify what you want, so that when those experiences arrive you can more fully embrace + cherish them.
For the past ten years I have taken the time at each New Moon for setting intentions. I find it funny to think I have been doing this for so long. Occasionally I will look back over them and it’s interesting to notice the recurring desires that seem to color my life. I especially enjoy being reminded of how I still feel connected to many of my past wishes + intentions. I have grown so much as a woman and yet something is so timeless about the things I most desire in my life, it’s really quite endearing. I know they came from my heart, the place where we all have infinite love + knowledge. I also value the action of acknowledging myself for my many transformations and deep commitment I have to my growth + expansion. I think we can all use a little more self-celebration… so cheers to that! :)
Lastly, over the years I have found that the best way to phrase intentions is as if they already exist. Having an “I AM” attitude powers up the process and subconsciously tells your brain this is already happening for me. Acting as if you are already experiencing something helps you to feel it in your body… and remember feeling is a key component in this beautiful creation equation.
How do you want to spend your time? How do you want to feel? What do you want to create in your life? What are you ready for?
Set your intentions. Take action. Feel the rewards. Repeat.
